How much money is paid out to a widow?

A once-off payment is made to a deceased contributor's spouse immediately after his / her death. The sum is linked directly to the size of the contribution. A widow / widower gets a provisional amount of R280 a month for a period of 6 months or until the widow / widower 's pension amount is known. Thereafter a widow / widower will receive a term grant (every four months) R280, R470, R880 or R1090 depending on his / her financial situation. The Fund makes use of a means test which means that not all income and expenditures are taken into account. School fees and bills will not be paid by this Fund. A grant made to a widow / widower automatically ceases on remarriage. This decission does not influence the children's grant.
